Commercial Office Renovation

3,800 sf

A renovation for the new offices for The Permanent Mission of Iceland to the United Nations and the Office of the General Consulate of Iceland in New York. The design needed to include the infrastructural requirements of a government office: soundproof offices, security points, robust IT and emergency systems, while also providing quality office space for the employees and diplomats and functioning as a space for entertaining and diplomatic meetings. The project required intense coordination with highly restrictive requirements of the existing building and a building-exclusive contractor for which the design needed to adhere to a strict ‘standard finishes’ palette. In one such instance of creative interpretation of these standards, the flooring needed to be commercial vinyl tile, we opted to use a different tile shape (the scallop) and through varying the weave direction we created a subtle pattern which translates traditional Icelandic wool weaving patterns.
